Description
At this site along the Deerfield River in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts the Indian Fishing Treaty was signed by the Mohawks and the Penobscots. In 1744 it was recognized by the colonial courts to preserve peace between the two tribes for the entire area within 1 day's travel of this spot, allowing both factions to benefit from fishing and hunting in the area.
