Description
Construction of this Colonial Revival styled institution began in 1919, and was completed in 1922 by Kendall, Taylor, and Co. It housed those individuals who were deemed intellectually, or developmentally disabled, in conditions that were considered horrific, medieval, and barbaric. After a number of lawsuits concerning the inhumane conditions, the facility was closed in 1992. Shortly thereafter, in 1993, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places per Wikipedia.
